James "Jim" Wood, M.D.
Dr. Jim Wood is a Yale-trained physician who practices in Charlotte, NC. After attending college and medical school in Arkansas, he moved to Charlotte, NC, for his residency in internal medicine at Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Wood completed his nephrology fellowship at Yale University and returned to Charlotte, where he has practiced since 2001.
He is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He has a special interest in and has over 10 years experience in the field of medical management/utilization review. Dr. Wood has performed legal merit reviews and has extensive ongoing experience performing internal medicine and nephrology reviews for utilization review companies.
Dr. Wood has an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and is published in several peer-reviewed medical journals. He has served as an expert witness for both plaintiffs and defendants in class-action suits including Fleets Phospho-Soda and Trasylol.

Michael A. Beatty, MD, FACEP
Dr. Michael Beatty received his MD from Northwestern University Medical School and specializes in emergency medicine in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Beatty is currently Emergency Physician and President-Elect of the Caroline HealthCare (CMC)-Pineville Medical Staff, where he has served on various hospital Committees, including Chair of the Quality Assessment and Improvement Committee, member of the CMC-Mercy/Pineville Credentials Committee and member of the CMC-Charlotte System-wide Credentials Committee. Dr Beatty is slated to become President of the Medical Staff in January 2013
He previously held the position of Medical Director of the CMC-Pineville Emergency Department, CMC-Steele Creek Emergency Department and CMC-Pineville Accredited Chest Pain Center. In his role as Medical Director, Dr Beatty served as Chair of Emergency Medicine with seat on hospital Medical Executive Committee, where he assumed responsibilities for emergency department physician performance, departmental throughput, quality assurance, as well as risk and complaint management. He worked collaboratively with hospital administration and the hospitalist team in utilization review, in preparation for Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor Program — with continued education of emergency providers on documentation to support inpatient vs. outpatient designations at time of ED admission.
Renee Rusnak, MD
Dr. Rusnak graduated magna cum laude from the Medical College of Ohio, is board certified in Internal Medicine and is currently a Hospitalist at Carolina’s Hospitalist Group in Charleston, North Carolina. She serves on several Committees, including the Diabetes Steering Committee, Core Measures Task Force and the Quality Assessment and Improvement Committee.
Ronald A. Orth, RN, NHA, RAC-C
Ron has specialized in Medicare/PPS/RAI regulations and education for the past 8 years. Ron was instrumental in establishing PPS auditing programs, reimbursement and compliance systems for two large LTC organizations and is a frequent contributor to industry publications such as Provider Magazine, PPS Alert and Billing Alert for Long Term Care.
Ron is a Master Trainer for the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC) and has spoken nationally and in Canada on the following topics:

Christopher Valerian, DO, MMM
Dr. Valerian received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed postgraduate training in Family Medicine at Duke University, and obtained a master’s degree in Medical Management from Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California.
Dr Valerian is a successful entrepreneur and owner of M & E Management, LLC, a healthcare consulting firm specializing in care management, hospital turnarounds, strategic advising around product development, operational excellence and quality. His professional interests include Quality, Performance Improvement, Disease Management and making a business case for quality by integrating financial analysis and clinical outcomes. He has a Black belt certification in Six Sigma, which he uses in each of these areas.
As Senior Vice President/Executive Medical Director for Health Integrated, Inc., he was responsible for clinical program development, analytics and measurement of success of their Targeted Population Health programs. He also held positions as Executive Medical Director of Quality Management and Clinical Innovations for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ, Vice President of Medical Affairs for a large, faith based national healthcare system, and Medical Director of a large ambulatory group practice and Executive Director of Care Management/Quality.
He has served as a physician advisor to the Quality Improvement Organization of New Jersey, elected officer of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Executive Medical Forum and frequently advises Wall Street firms on topics in healthcare. Dr. Valerian has made numerous television appearances, as well as newspapers, magazines, professional journals, and podcast interviews.
